In much the same way that car insurance policy premiums are partially evaluated or rated on the postcodal area in which you live dependant upon the amount of car crime in that particular area, home insurance policies are very much the same insofar as insurers take into consideration the amount of home insurance claims in that area over a period of time.
One of the larger aggregators has recently conducted a thorough survey incorporating the information gleaned from over three million home insurance quotations over the course of 12 months to find out the areas throughout the country which are least and most affected by burglary.

Last year’s top burglary hotspot was LS13 in Leeds, which doesn’t even make it into this year’s top 20. The reason for this I should imagine is that most burglars, while free, are prolific in their crimes and clearly this year the little fellow is spending a bit of time with Her Majesty!
This year however, if you live in Chorlton-cum-Hardy or Barlow Moor in Manchester (postcode M21), it may be prudent to ensure you have extra security measures in and around your property as there are 45.2 claims in every 1,000 enquiries, which equates to a staggering 1 in every 22 houses burgled. Although Manchester takes the top spot, over half of the worst areas are in London, with specific areas within other big cities such as Birmingham and Liverpool also included.
On the other end of the scale there are 8 postcodes on the UK mainland in which there were no burglaries whatsoever:
RG24 Popley, Chineham, Sherborne St. John Hampshire
EX39 Bideford, Lundy Island Devon
YO25 Driffield East Riding Yorkshire
PL9 Plymstock, Heybrook Bay, Wembury Plymouth
SA18 Ammanford, Betws Carmarthenshire
CF39 Porth Rhondda
IP11 Felixtowe Suffolk
PA16 Greenock Inverclyde
If you do live in one of the higher rated postcodal areas, you may be paying nearly 25% more than most, and whilst most insurers do take an overall approach to specific areas, others will look at the risk on a case by case basis, so if you have had no claims yourself and you have adequate security on your property, it’s always worthwhile comparing home insurance here at Comparecrazy.com.
