Child Breaks Arm In Bouncy Castle Blunder

bouncy castle hireTaking kids to local family friendly events is supposed to leave parents with the peace of mind that their little ones will be safe and sound. However 32 year old mother Natalie Bunn was left horrified when she saw her children carried off in a bouncy castle that had been swept away by a freak gust of wind.

Natalie recalls, “The boys had been on the bouncy castle a few times throughout the day and they were having the time of their lives. But suddenly it flew off into the air and over the adults’ heads up towards the sky and came crashing down much further away than where it had originally been.”

After taking five year old Morgan and three year old Marshall to an Easter play event at the Milton Keynes Play Association, Natalie gave them the go-ahead to have a jump on the rented bouncy castle. The last thing she expected was to see her two little ones swept over the head of horrified parents before crashing back down to the ground. Three children were injured in the accident, with one suffering from a broken arm.

“We all ran over and there was a lot of screaming, shouting and crying, from adults as well as children. I was shouting for someone to get an ambulance, and two arrived within five minutes. My friend’s child was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with a broken arm, and Marshall and Morgan were looked at in the ambulance but thankfully we could take them home.”

Thankfully all the kids have made a full recovery however there are still after effects to deal with. “The boys keep saying that they have fallen from the sky and bounced on the floor. But they won’t go on a bouncy castle again,” says Natalie.

While Natalie doesn’t blame the Milton Keynes Play Association itself, she is urging it to improve its health and safety regulations across its events. “The staff there on the day were very helpful afterwards because they had seen what had happened, but I’m hoping that they look at making it safer,” she says. “They need to hear the message that it might be fun to put up a bouncy castle, but if it is too windy then the safety of children has to come first.”

It may be a freak event but at the end of the day, it does highlight the absolute importance of taking out adequate insurance when hosting an event with a bouncy castle, or running a bouncy castle business
