The message seems to be clear. BUY INSURANCE ONLINE! According to IMRG who compile the e-Retail Sales Index, the UK has now by far the most prolific internet shoppers out of the 28 member states of the EU with 82% of internet users regularly shopping online accounting for 10% of all retail sales, a figure which is estimated to double by 2020. Romania on the other hand is at the bottom of the table with only 11% of internet users shopping online.
Over 20% of families in the UK now shop online for groceries and food compared to less than 10% for the rest of the world, boosting the UK rating significantly. Also helping these figures I would presume is the fact that a lot of people in the current economic climate cannot afford to go out as often, hence the online sale of lingerie has increased by 30% on this time last year!
Other significant statistics include the sales of clothes up 18% with accessories and shoes up by 20%. Internet sales in total rose by 13% in September compared with August, and were 20% up on the same period last year. The September figures were overall the greatest monthly increase since the e-Retail Sales Index began some 13 years ago.
Most astonishingly were the sales facilitated via smartphones, up 150% on this time last year. All these figures show a growing confidence in online trading from the public, with e-commerce sites looking forward to a very busy Christmas period.
